Vegan Balinese Gado Gado recipe
This is the salad I loved the most when I visited Ubud, Bali( ;
Here is the recipe of easy vegan Gado Gado. You can add Indonesian tempe as optional.
Ingredients
4 servings
- 100 g ..Bean sprouts, blanched
- 1..Cucumber, sliced
- 100 g ..white cabbage, sliced and blanched
- 50 g ...Red cabbage, sliced and blanched
- 1..carrot sliced and blanched. ( traditional recipe is eaten raw )
- 100 g.. sliced firm tofu (optional)
- 50 g....Cauliflower, cut and blanched
- 2 tbsp..Sunflower seeds
- Salt to taste.
How to make Gado Gado sauce
What you need is..
- 2.5 tbsp unsalted peanuts paste
- 2 cloves garlic , peeled and grind
- 1/2 tsp red chili peppers seeded and chopped
- 1/2 tsp honey or maple syrup (if you are vegan.)
- 1 tsp tablespoon tamarind extract or soy sauce
- 1 tsp Juice of lime
- a pinch of Salt
- 50 ml of Water
Method
Mix all the ingredients above very well, and the Gado Gado sauce is ready!
Instructions
1.First, prepare the sauce.
2.Prepare all the vegetables and cook vegetables in a steamer or
blanch them except carrot, cucumber, and red cabbage
3.Cut tofu in 1-inch cubes. Fry the tofu in a pan with oil and a bit of tamarind or soy sauce to lightly brown them on all the sides.
4. Arrange the vegetables and tofu on a plate or bowl and serve with the peanut sauce.
5.Sprinkle with the sunflower seeds on the top and serve with a bowl of jasmine rice if you like.
